TOLL ATTENDANT I

Labor Grade 9: $14.20 - $19.18 per Hour

The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Turnpikes, has 5 full-time seasonal vacancies for Toll Attendant I positions.


SUMMARY: To process all vehicles using the NH Turnpike System to ensure revenues due are collected and traffic is expedited through the toll plazas.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Education: High School diploma or high school equivalency credential.


Experience: Six (6) months of experience in public contact work preferably involving the handling of cash and making change.


RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Ability to make change quickly and accurately. Ability to follow instructions. Ability to meet the public and to answer questions in a pleasant and courteous manner. Ability to count money and to prepare simple records. Ability to work exposed to various climatic conditions. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with other employees and supervisors. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency Appointing Authority.

18 Months of additional relevant experience = Associate's degree

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The job of collecting tolls and the operation of the toll collection equipment is designed for a person in a standing position. The majority of time during a shift is spent in a standing position. A stool is provided to give you an opportunity to sit occasionally so you can rest your legs and change your back posture. Frequent bending, stretching, gripping, reaching and twisting, and the ability to life a maximum of 50 pounds occasionally is required. All accountabilities must be performed in accordance with State, Federal and Department rules and policies, including risk management, safety and environmental standards, regulations and administrative orders.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

~ Processes and classifies vehicles at one or more toll plazas expeditiously by category and method of payment in order to ensure proper revenue is collected through the electronic toll systems to provide accurate audit records.


~ Provides security for toll revenue collected in order to ensure accountability of all funds to be turned into the Supervisor.


~ Observes and received reports on potential traffic hazards, road conditions, accidents and unusual occurrences on the NH Turnpike System and reports them to the Supervisor in order to ensure public safety.


~ Performs housekeeping duties and clearing of snow in and around the tollbooth and within the toll plaza.


~ Relieves other Toll Attendants for break or lunch periods.
